Laser Skin Rejuvenation
These treatments are often referred to as nonablative laser resurfacing, because there is no real removal of the outer dead layer of the skin, the epidermis, during the treatment.  A laser or special light is used to selectively heat up the collagen in the dermis (deeper layer of skin) to stimulate collagen remodeling.  The superficial part of the skin is spared; therefore, there is no injury to the outer layers of skin. This means that there will be no break in the surface of the skin.  This is called nonabaltive skin resurfacing.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation FAQs

What are the advantages of laser skin rejuvenation?
There is no downtime while the skin is being rejuvenated because the laser passes through the outer layer of skin and works directly on the collagen and elastin molecules in the deeper dermis.  You can apply makeup immediately after laser treatment.

Several, usually 3 to 5, treatments are required at monthly intervals.  The results are subtle, gradual, and not immediate as in ablative skin resurfacing, but there is no down time.

How is the treatment performed?
The treatment is done in the office with no anesthesia and lasts from 15 to 30 minutes.  A cooling spray is used during the treatment, which minimizes the discomfort.  Occasionally, a topical anesthetic cream can also be used for more sensitive individuals.

What is the recovery from laser skin rejuvenation?
There is no downtime with this treatment.  Most often, one can go to work or feel comfortable socially immediately after the treatment.  There may be some redness on the treated area for an hour or so after the treatment, but make up can be applied immediately afterwards.

What can I expect from this treatment?
New collagen and elastin growth takes place over a period of several months after the treatments are being performed.  Smoother and more vibrant skin, reduction of pore size, and improved skin tone and texture can be noted gradually over this period of time.  Touch up treatments help maintain the progression of new collagen growth and healthier looking skin
